Its sunny climate allows you to explore many of Lisbon&#8217;s wonders on foot.  <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The city of Lisbon was the big winner of the 2017 edition of the <a href=\"https:\/\/haia.embaixadaportugal.mne.gov.pt\/pt\/a-embaixada\/noticias\/a-edi&#xE7;&#xE3;o-de-2017-dos-wallpaper-design-awards,-distinguiu-lisboa-de-melhor-cidade-do-ano\">Wallpaper Design Awards<\/a>, which elect the people, places and products that they consider to have been the best, with the Portuguese capital winning the &#8220;Best City&#8221; category. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wallpaper.com\">Wallpaper<\/a> is one of the most influential <em>design<\/em> publications. <\/p>\n\n<div style=\"height:45px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-uagb-advanced-heading uagb-block-ebf8be07\"><h2 class=\"uagb-heading-text\"><strong>Why Lisbon?<\/strong><\/h2><\/div>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The jury placed Lisbon ahead of cities such as San Francisco (USA) and Vienna (Austria), highlighting the construction of the Museum of Art, Architecture and Technology (<a href=\"https:\/\/lisbonsightsailing.com\/en\/vistas\/maat-museum-of-art-architecture-and-technology\/\">MAAT<\/a>) in Bel\u00e9m, the inaugural edition of the ARCOLisboa art fair, and the Architecture Triennial.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In addition, the new <a href=\"https:\/\/lisbonsightsailing.com\/en\/vistas\/lisbon-cruise-port\/\">cruise terminal,<\/a> designed by architect Jo\u00e3o Lu\u00eds Carrilho da Gra\u00e7a, was also part of the jury&#8217;s choices that gave the victory to the city of Lisbon.<\/p>\n\n<div style=\"height:45px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-uagb-advanced-heading uagb-block-40be60e8\"><h2 class=\"uagb-heading-text\"><strong>A little bit of its &#8220;recent&#8221; history<\/strong><\/h2><\/div>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In 1755, a major earthquake devastated Lisbon, destroying much of the city. However, the city was rebuilt and many of the historic buildings were restored, thus preserving its history and culture. <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Today, you can explore the traces of these important moments in Lisbon&#8217;s history by visiting its museums, palaces, and monuments.
