When made at the rope end it serves as a temporary grip and can also be used to quickly prevent a cable from unreeving through an eye or a block.  <\/p>\n\n<div style=\"height:42px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-center\" id=\"h-no-de-azelha\">Overhand loop knot<\/h3>\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/lisbonsightsailing.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/05.svg\" alt=\"Sailors&#x2019; Knot - Overhand loop knot\" class=\"wp-image-44214\" style=\"width:320px;height:88px\" width=\"320\" height=\"88\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Sailors\u2019 Knot &#8211; Overhand loop knot<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<div style=\"height:42px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It is performed as if it were a slipknot at the centre of a cable and serves to provisionally adjust a cable, marking any measurement. It is tied at the end of a mooring rope to quickly slip over a bollard and on the towing lines of vessels when these have to be towed.
